UNDER YOUR SPELL ROMPS TO ALLAN ROBERTSON WIN
Former Equus Champion Capetown Noir came up with his first G1 winner when his talented two-year-old daughter Under Your Spell put up a dazzling performance to land Sunday’s G1 Allan Robertson Championship (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.
A winner of her first three starts, Under Your Spell had failed to fire last time out when a well beaten fourth in the G2 4Racing SA Fillies Nursery but reversed that form in no uncertain terms with a clear-cut win in Sunday’s R400 000 contest for two-year-old fillies.
Impressive filly Sheela had won her first two starts, the Listed Storm Bird Stakes and G2 Racing SA Nursery, and was sent off favourite for Sunday’s sprint.
However, after being up with the pace for much of the race, the Michael and Adam Azzie had no answer to a fast finishing Under Your Spell.
The latter powered home, from well off the pace, under Calvin Habib to land her first G1 race by a widening margin of nearly four lengths.
Recent G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Sound Of Warning stayed on for second, to provide trainer Sean Tarry with a 1-2 finish in the 2021 Allan Robertson Championship, with the favourite another short-head away in third.
Racing for Sean Tarry Racing (Pty) Ltd & Mrs BMA Lahoud & Messrs M A Currie, C N Francis, A Lahoud, Jarryd Lahoud, Allan F Peters, Larry Pogir & Craig Zoghby, Under Your Spell claimed her fourth win from five starts in a time of 69.01 seconds.
Bred by the Summerhill Stud, Under Your Spell has now a trio of black type wins to her name, with the Sean Tarry trained filly having won both the Listed Ruffian Stakes and G3 Protea Stakes earlier in the season.
The well related Under Your Spell is out of unraced Kingmambo mare Deceptive Charm , herself a half-sister to G2 Park Hill Stakes winner Meeznah.
Deceptive Charm, whose other relatives include former useful Cape sire Casey Tibbs, also ranks as the dam of dual G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner Witchcraft.
