SUMMER PUDDING'S BREEDERS WELL REPRESENTED AT AUGUST SALE
Mauritzfontein, one of South Africa’s long time leading thoroughbred nurseries and breeders of the recently retired Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding, will be bringing a very classy consignment to the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
Below are just a few of the potential highlights to be found in Mauritzfontein’s August Sale draft:
This filly is bred to be out of the very top draw. Not only is she a daughter of Redoute’s Choice’s sensational G1 winning son Rafeef, but her dam Miss Galidora is a Galileo half-sister to a French classic winner, and successful sire, in the form of Clodovil. The latter, sired by Redoute’s Choice’s own sire Danehill, won the 2003 G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas), and Clodovil’s 25 black type winners thus far include such G1 winners as Moriarty, Tiger Tanaka and Nahoodh.
This colt, closely inbred to both National Assembly and Storm Cat, has an intriguing pedigree. A son of the late Soft Falling Rain, whose flagbearers last season included the graded stakes winners Heavens Girl and Waterberry Lane, Thunderstone is out of the winning Tiger Ridge mare Navasha. The latter, in turn, is a daughter of former Equus Champion, and G1 Thekwini Fillies Stakes winner, Laverna, and Laverna herself is out of the G1 winning champion Enchantress. The latter, like Soft Falling Rain, was sired by National Assembly.
By the same sire as dual Met winner Rainbow Bridge, Matopo Hill is a filly with a classic pedigree. A three-parts sister to the Ideal World sired G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Mount Laurel, her dam Nyangan is a three time winning Silvano half-sister to dual Guineas winning sire Noordhoek Flyer. From the immediate family of multiple champion New Zealand sire Volksraad, Matopo Hill hails from the same female line as such standouts as African Story, Halling and Mukhadram to name but three.
By the same sire as such stars as Pray For Rain, Heavens Girl, World Radar and Waterberry Lane, this filly is from one of the very best families in the studbook.
Raining Rubies, who traces back directly in female line to Meon Valley’s remarkable mare Reprocolor, is a half-sister to three winners including G3 Gold Bowl winner Imperial Ruby. Her own dam, the Sadler’s Wells mare Ruby Necklace, is a daughter of the Darshaan sired G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Necklace, and this is the family of the Sadler’s Wells sired stars Kayf Tara and Opera House.
By the same sire as the G1 winning fillies Sentbydestiny and Zarina, this filly is out of a three time winning daughter of Dixieland Band (broodmare sire of more than 200 stakes winners), who is a full-sister to the dam of Argentine G1 performer Licinius. This filly’s third dam, Bold Lady Anne, was a top-class performer who ran second in the G1 Spinaway Stakes and she was a half-sister to G1 Hopeful Stakes winner, and successful sire, Salt Lake.
This colt is bred on a cross which works, as he is a full-brother to G3 Track And Ball Oaks winner Zante and a three-parts brother to the Ideal World sired Stormsvlei Mile/Sweet Chestnut Stakes winner Helen’s Ideal. Out of a winning Western Winter half-sister to the more than useful galloper Flame Tree, Temperate Zone hails from the same female line as champions Cherry On The Top, Classic Flag, Lady Windermere and Summer Pudding, to name but a few.
By one of South Africa’s most promising stallions, Ipso Facto is a half-sister to four smart winners notably Woolavington Handicap hero Benjan and Oaks Trial runner up Withbatedbreath. Out of a winning daughter of Machiavellian (damsire of Shamardal, Dark Angel and Mehmas), this filly’s granddam was a champion in Argentina, and she is from the same “E” family as champions Ecurie, Elusive Fort and Empress Club.
By the same G1 winning stallion as impressive G2 4Racing SA Nursery winner Sheela, this colt is a half-brother to former Grand Heritage winner Riverstown. From the very same family as his G1 Ranvet Stakes winning sire, and inbred to the important mare Mill Princess, Tyrconnell’s third dam is a G3 winning own sister to G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile and influential champion sire Last Tycoon.
By last season’s Leading Sire of 2YOs in South Africa, Maggie Smith is a filly who is closely inbred to the highly influential Ahonoora. This well bred filly is out of a three time winning daughter of Galileo’s Derby winning son New Approach and from the same family as New Approach’s G2 winning daughter Sword Of Light. This well bred filly’s granddam is a dual stakes winning own sister to triple Australian G1 winner Flamberge and her third dam was a G3 winner of eight races.
