South Africa’s reigning Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding put up a sparkling trial for November 28th’s G1 World Sports Betting Summer Cup when making a winning four-year-old debut at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.

The Paul Peter trained star defied 62kgs when romping home to a clear-cut win in Saturday’s Champion Stayer: Out Of Your League Pinnacle Stakes (F & M) (1600m), and is clearly in tremendous heart.

Jockey Warren Kennedy tucked the unbeaten champion (12-10) just off her front running stable mate Elusive Force (5-1), after rank outsider Destinys Game (20-1) made a hash of the start while losing five lengths at the gate.

Summer Pudding always looked to be travelling smoothly, and when Kennedy asked the question 300m from home, the Mauritzfontein owned champion quickly put the race to bed.

Summer Pudding stayed on under a gentle ride from Kennedy and went on to post her eighth win from as many starts by an emphatic two lengths.
The hard-knocking Rouge Allure (10-1) got up in the shadow of the post to deny G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Mount Laurel (63-20) of the second spot, with front runner Elusive Force taking fourth.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, four-year-old Summer Pudding won Saturday’s 1600m race in a time of 99.6

Summer Pudding, winner of both the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara and G1 Woolavington 2000 last season, is one of 98 stakes winners for Maine Chance Farms’ recently retired champion sire Silvano.

A three-parts sister to the G1 placed Blossom (by Silvano), Summer Pudding is out of G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Cherry On The Cake.
