SPRINKLES TOO STRONG IN THREE TROIKAS WINJanuary 2, 2022
The Paul Peter trained Sprinkles proved too good for some highly regarded rivals, when she ran out a convincing winner of the G3 Three Troikas Stakes (1400m) at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.
A traditional pointer to the G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas later in the season, this year’s Three Troikas attracted eight three-year-old fillies, including last season’s Equus Champion Rain In Holland.
However, it was the smart Supreme Quest who eventually started tote favourite for the Three Troikas Stakes, but neither Rain In Holland or Supreme Quest could compete with the late thrust of the Peter trained winner.

Under Warren Kennedy, Sprinkles raced off the pace set by Crimson Causeway, with Eternity Ring and Rain In Holland bringing up the rear of the small field.
Eternity Ring, Rain In Holland and Supreme Quest all launched challenges as the front runner faded away 200m from home, only for Kennedy to bring Sprinkles with a strong run down the outside which saw Sprinkles get up and win by three-parts of a length.
Bred by the Narrow Creek Stud (who also bred the Peter trained Elusive Fort stars Big Burn and Catch Twentytwo), the very progressive looking Sprinkles has now won three of five starts and claimed Saturday’s race in a time of 85.67 seconds.
The filly, third in the G3 Fillies Mile last time out, is a daughter of Equus Champion Elusive Fort –whose 14 other black type winners include last season’s G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Kommetdieding.
Sprinkles, a R50 000 buy from the 2020 Cape Yearling Sale, is out of the three time winning Tiger Ridge mare Jin-Go-La-Ba.
