SPEEDSTERS CLASH IN GOLDEN HORSE SPRINT

Sixteen of South Africa’s top sprinters are set to do battle in this Saturday’s G1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m) at Hollywoodbets Scottsville.

Talented three-year-olds Vars Vicky and MK’s Pride dispute favouritism with former champion sprinter Kasimir, and all three should run well here.

Last year’s close runner up Ultra Magnus is another who should run well, although he is worse off at the weights with Warrior’s Rest-the winner of this race 12 months ago.

Warrior’s Rest (below) is one of four runners from the Sean Tarry yard, with KZN specialist Eden Roc, former Golden Horse winner Chimichuri Run and Ikigai being the others. Riding arrangements, however, suggest that it is Eden Roc, who drops back in trip from the 1400m of his last start, most fancied by the stable.

Cartel Captain, a son of former Golden Horse winner Captain Of All, is another dropping back in trip, while, despite having to lug 60 kgs here, G1 Computaform Sprint runner up Bohica would have a shot if he can overcome the weight.

Champion Kasimir (above) and Captain Tatters represent Justin Snaith here with the former having his first start since finishing sixth in the G2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes at the end of February, while Captain Tatters (always a bridesmaid never a bride) is hard to fancy having beaten in a conditional graduation last time out.

Ratings suggest that all of Ishnana,No Laying Up, Pearl Of Asia, and Battle Force have plenty to do, while Speedpoint needs to recapture his smart earlier form to feature here.
