SAFE PASSAGE IMPRESSES IN GUINEAS WIN

Trainer Mike de Kock made amends for his Desert Miracle’s defeat in Tuesday night’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas when his charge Safe Passage ran out a hugely impressive of Tuesday’s G2 World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas (1600m).

It was another big race win for owner-breeder Drakenstein Stud –whose Rain In Holland had captured the Fillies Guineas on Tuesday.

Safe Passage, whose trainer had won the 2021 Gauteng Guineas with the now retired Malmoos, made it five wins in a row with a comprehensive win in Tuesday’s delayed (from Saturday) R1 000 000 contest.

Under an inform S’Manga Khumalo, the gelded three-year-old was dropped out early, as the previously unbeaten Supreme Warrior went out to make the running.

Supreme Warrior faded out of contention as the field turned for home, and a wall of horses launched their challenges across the Turffontein track.

Safe Passage threaded his way through his rivals, as Khumalo asked his mount the question.

Under a driving ride, the Silvano gelding kept finding more in the closing stages to hold off a late challenge from fellow Silvano son Pyromaniac and win by a length and a half. The runner up, who raced at the back of the field for much of Tuesday’s race, took second spot –a length and a quarter clear of the fast finishing Outofthedarkness.

Now a five time winner, from just seven starts, Safe Passage, winner of the G2 WSB Dingaans last time out, claimed Tuesday’s prize of R625 000 in a time of 99.61 seconds.

He is one of 103 stakes winners for deceased multiple champion sire Silvano, with Safe Passage’s dam being G2 The Debutante winner My Sanctuary (by Antonius Pius).
