RAIN DOWNS MIRACLE IN FILLIES GUINEAS SURPRISE
February 8, 2022Trainer Sean Tarry and jockey Richard Fourie teamed up with last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly Rain In Holland to cause a 5-1 surprise in Tuesday’s G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas (1600m) at Turffontein.
The Fillies Guineas, postponed from Saturday, was expected to be a walk in the park for recent G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas runner up Desert Miracle, with that Mike de Kock trained filly jumping a hot 1-3 tote favourite.
However, Tarry and Fourie had other plans, with Rain In Holland producing a fine win to down the favourite in convincing fashion.
Desert Miracle’s stablemate Clafoutis was sent out to make the running, as Gavin Lerena had Desert Miracle perfectly placed in second.

Fourie had Rain In Holland tracking the favourite, with Desert Miracle quick to hit the front shortly after the field turned for home.
Desert Miracle appeared poised for an easy win, before Rain In Holland stayed on doggedly to outfight the favourite and win by two and a half lengths.
Recent G3 Three Troikas Stakes winner Sprinkles powered home to relegate Desert Miracle into third, with Supreme Quest finishing three lengths off the winner in fourth.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Rain In Holland claimed the Fillies Guineas in a time of 99.74 seconds.
Now a winner of six of ten starts (including last season’s G1 Thekwini Stakes), Rain In Holland is one of 47 stakes winners for deceased Cartier Champion, and former Drakenstein sire, Duke Of Marmalade.
Rain In Holland is one of two winners produced by Aqlaam mare Imvula (a half-sister to champion Dancer’s Daughter), with the latter also responsible for the very classy Rain In Newmarket.
