MET WINNER'S SISTER IS ARQANA BOUND
Tazma, catalogued as Lot 104 in December’s Arqana Vente d’Élevage, or breeding stock sale, has a South African connection.
The Iffraaj daughter, and winner at three, is a half-sister to the former Brett Crawford trained star Whisky Baron.
The latter, a son of Manhattan Rain, was South Africa’s Champion Middle Distance Horse in 2016-2017, and earned in excess of R3.446 million during his South African campaign.
Whisky Baron scored his most notable win when he captured the 2017 G1 Sun Met , with his five other wins including the 2017 G2 Peninsula Handicap.
His Sun Met win came at the expense of dual South African Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle, with such standout local gallopers as Captain America, Marinaresco, French Navy, and Bela-Bela further back in running.
Tazma (pictured below) and Whisky Baron were produced by the Sinndar mare Tazkara, an unraced half-sister to dual French G3 winner Tashelka. A daughter of Mujahid, Tashelka went on to produce G2 Prix de la Nonette queen Tasaday, whose son Manobo won the 2021 G2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay.
This year’s Arqana Vente d’Élevage will take place from December 4th-7th, with past graduates including this year’s unbeaten Cartier Champion Native Trail and French classic winner Coeursamba.
The 2021 Arqana December sale will see 1,012 mares, fillies, and foals go under the hammer. The first part of the catalog will see 240 lots of the highest caliber go through the ring Dec. 4.
