The training combination of Harold Crawford and his daughter Michelle Rix teamed up with first-timer Kommetdieding (16-1) to score a surprise win in Tuesday’s R225 000 Klawervlei Farm Sale Graduate Race (Non-Black Type) at Kenilworth.
Inform trainer Glen Kotzen appeared to hold a very strong hand in Tuesday’s 1200m contest, with Kotzen saddling not only the promising tote favourite Tanzanite Queen (13-18) but also Musical Glitch, Ruby Rhythm and Magical Midlands.
However, Kommetdieding had other plans and duly passed the favourite close home to win by a widening two lengths.

Tanzanite Queen was quickly away and was always up with the pace, but when Sihle Cele asked Kommetdieding to quicken, that Klawervlei Stud-bred colt duly did so, and went away to win well.
The favourite looks a shoe-in to win a maiden next time out, with Tanzanite Queen finishing four and a half lengths clear of third-place finisher Captain Dizzy (30-1), with Musical Glitch (11-2) back in fourth spot.
The winner made a winning debut in a time of 75.39, while racing in perfect weather conditions.
Kommetdieding’s win also continued the good run enjoyed of late by his Klipdrif based sire, and former SA Derby winner, Elusive Fort (below).
The latter has supplied a flood of winners since South African racing returned from the COVID19 lockdown suspension, with Elusive Fort’s recent winners also including G1 SA Derby victor Out Of Your League.
Tuesday’s winner was produced by the Captain Al mare Adorable, a three time winner who finished second in the Listed Gardenia Handicap. A three-parts sister to the Captain Al sired triple G1 winner Captain America, Adorable herself is a daughter of dual Prix du Cap winner Dacha (by Russian Fox).
The Klawervlei Farm Sale Graduate Race was open to all graduates of 2019 Klawervlei Farm Sale, where Kommetdieding was a R55 00 buy.
The 2020 Klawerveli Farm Sale, conducted in conjunction with Gavelhouse is now opening for bidding, an extensive preview from TSA News can be viewed here.
