Promising two-year-old gelding Global Drummer all but ensured himself the award of East Cape’s Champion 2YO Colt/Gelding for 2019-2020 when he romped to a clear-cut win in Friday’s Listed Champion Juvenile Cup (1400m) at Fairview racecourse.

The Ascot Stud bred gelding had won the Listed Dahlia Plate and Listed East Cape Nursery at his two prior starts, and was favoured to make it a hatrick of feature race wins in Friday’s R85 000 feature.

Jockey Stallone Naidoo quickly took the Gavin Smith trained lobal Drummer to the front, and the pair stayed on in front throughout the race.

It proved all too easy for the 5-2 tote favourite, with Global Drummer romping home to a three and three quarter length win, over Tarantino (9-4), with rank long shot Tiger In The Sun (50-1) a further half length back in third spot.

KwaZulu-Natal raider Walls Of Dubrovnik (11-2) never got into contention and eventually finished seventh.

Just once beaten thus far, Global Drummer claimed his fourth win, from five starts, in a time of 85.6 seconds.

A son of Galileo horse Global View (officially South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2019-2020), Global Drummer was a R250 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
