The Paul Peter trained Freed From Desire downed her more fancied stablemate Big Burn when she ran out a cosy winner of the Listed Swallow Stakes (1160m) at Turffontein on Saturday afternoon.

Under Gavin Lerena, the three-year-old daughter of Jackson made it four wins in a row when landing Saturday’s sprint feature for three-year-old fillies.

Tote favourite Big Burn and Remember When cut out the early running, with Freed From Desire racing towards the back of the six horse field.

Big Burn gallantly kept finding more in front, but Gavin Lerena, unbeaten on Freed From Desire, knew what he had under him, as he switched Freed From Desire to the inside of her stablemate. Freed From Desire unleashed a fine turn of foot to pick up her biggest career win by a long neck. The runner up, whose saddle slipped at the start of the race, lost nothing in defeat, with Big Burn conceding 3kgs to her progessive stablemate Freed From Desire.

Big Burn, in turn, finished three lengths clear of the third-placed finisher Supreme Quest.

Now a winner of 6 of 12 starts, Freed From Desire claimed the 2022 Swallow Stakes in a time of 66.74 seconds.

The Swallow Stakes was also a great result for the Narrow Creek Stud -who bred both Freed From Desire and runner-up Big Burn.

Freed From Desire is the third stakes winning daughter for the now Heversham Park based Jackson, while her dam, the winning Trippi mare Musical Romance, is out of the stakes placed Captain Al mare Ribbons For Thee.
