Trainer Stuart Pettigrew has a hugely exciting prospect on his hands in the form of unbeaten three-year-old filly Anything Goes.
The latter, South Africa’s Champion 2YO Filly of 2020, made it five wins from as many starts when she outclassed her field to win Saturday’s G2 Joburg Spring F&M Challenge (1450m) at Turffontein.
A courageous winner of the G1 Thekwini Stakes last time out, the Varsfontein Stud-bred filly was all the rage for Saturday’s R150 000 contest for fillies and mares, and the 9-10 shot duly lived up to expectations with a fluent victory.
Anything Goes tracked the front running pair of Mill Queen (10-1) and Magic School (17-2), and when jockey Diego De Gouveia asked the question, she hit the front 200m from home and romped home to post a fluent three-length -stamping herself an exciting classic prospect in the doing.
Trainer Gary Alexander sent out Magic School and Mount Laurel to finish second and third respectively, with the consistent Magic School finishing two and a quarter lengths in front of her stablemate.
The classy Anything Goes, who has won all five of her starts by an aggregate of nearly eight lengths, claimed her second graded race in a time of 87.97.
The filly, a R275 000 buy from the 2019 National Sale, is one of 52 stakes winners for the Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm based Var -whose other notable progeny include fellow Equus Champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa.
Anything Goes, a half-sister to G3 Sea Cottage Stakes winner Green Laser, is out of the unplaced Parade Leader mare Dance Domain -whose siblings include triple G1 winner and Equus Champion Miler Capetown Noir.
