Sandown Stud’s new resident sire Soqrat has plenty to offer breeders. The multiple G1-winning Champion was one of the finest racehorses of his generation, with Soqrat taking high ranking at two, three and four.
South Africa’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2017-2018, Soqrat won seven times, winning the G1 Premiers Champion Stakes at two, and the G1 Cape Guineas and G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes the following season – in winning the Cape Guineas, Soqrat joined the likes of champion sires Captain Al and Jet Master -both of whom winning the Guineas of their respective years.
The champion, who banked more than R3.5 million in prize money, won or placed in 16 of his 19 outings, with Soqrat winning or placing in no fewer than seven G1 races, including the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, G1 World Sports Betting Champions Challenge, G1 Gauteng Chris Gerber Summer Cup and G1 WSB Champions Cup.
Among the G1 winners/champions accounted for by Soqrat were Camphoratus, Chimichuri Run, Hat Puntano, Lady In Black, Legal Eagle, One World, Rainbow Bridge, Snowdance, Undercover Agent, Vardy and Will Pays.
Soqrat also has plenty of appeal in pedigree terms. By the same sire as recent G1 Del Mar Oaks heroine Red Lark, and from the powerful Danehill male line, Soqrat hails from an exceptional female line.
Out of a dual winning daughter of multiple champion sire, and outstanding broodmare sire, Hussonet, Soqrat is from the immediate family of French classic winner, and multiple champion sire, Linamix.
The champion is directly descended in female line from the taproot mare Gondolette – ancestress of such outstanding sires as Hyperion, Mossborough and Sir Tristram, as well as popular South African sire What A Winter.
